Emmanuel Kattan
Director Alliance Program, Columbia
Emmanuel Kattan is Director of the Alliance Program. He was previously Director of the British Council in New York, where he oversaw academic collaboration programs. He created partnerships with the Henry Luce Foundation and the Carnegie Corporation to launch initiatives connecting higher education institutions across the Atlantic. Before joining the British Council, Emmanuel was Senior Adviser at the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, where he managed strategic communications and engagement with academic communities. He also held senior positions at the Commonwealth Secretariat and at the Quebec Delegation in London, where he was in charge of academic relations programs. A native of Montreal, Emmanuel studied politics at Oxford as a Rhodes scholar and earned a PhD from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris. He is the author of four books: an essay on the politics of memory and three novels.

Andrea Lodi
Cornell Tech
Andrea is an Andrew H. and Ann R. Tisch Professor at the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute at Cornell Tech and the Technion. He is a member of the Operations Research and Information Engineering field at Cornell University. Before joining Cornell, he was a Herman Goldstine Fellow at the IBM Mathematical Sciences Department, NY in 2005–2006, full professor of Operations Research at DEI, University of Bologna 2007-2015 and Canada Excellence Research Chair in “Data Science for Real-time Decision Making” at Polytechnique Montréal 2015-2022. His main research interests are in Mixed-Integer Linear and Nonlinear Programming and Data Science and his work has received several recognitions including the IBM and Google faculty awards. Andrea is the recipient of the INFORMS Optimization Society 2021 Farkas Prize and has been elected an INFORMS Fellow in 2023. Andrea has been the principal investigator of scientific projects (often involving industrial partners) for Italy, European Union, Canada and USA. In the period 2006-2021, he was a consultant of the IBM CPLEX research and development team, developing CPLEX, one of the leading software for Mixed-Integer Optimization.
Matthias Preindl
Columbia University
Matthias Preindl received the B.Sc. degree from the University of Padua (summa cum laude, 2008), the M.Sc. degree from ETH Zurich (2010), and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Padua (2014), in electrical engineering. He is an Associate Professor at Columbia University, USA. Prior to joining Columbia in 2016, he was an R&D Engineer of Power Electronics and Drives at Leitwind AG (2010-2012), a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at McMaster University, Canada (2014-2015). Dr. Preindl serves as Area Editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology and VTS Distinguished Lecturer (class 2023). He was the general chair of 2022 IEEE/AIAA ITEC+EATS. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, Fellow of IET, recipient of the NSF CAREER Award (2017), and co-recipient of the AutoTech Breakthrough Awards Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) Innovation of the Year (2023). His research interests include the design and control of motor drives, power electronics, and batteries for transportation electrification.

Yiren Lu
Waymo
Yiren Lu is a Senior Machine Learning Research Engineer at Waymo Research, focusing on developing ML agents for autonomous driving motion planning and multi-agent simulation. His research encompasses reinforcement learning, imitation learning, data-driven simulation, and foundation models. He has collaborated with Sergey Levine on deep RL methods for learning driving behavior policies. Previously, Lu worked as a software engineer at Google Search and the Assistant team, dedicating 20% of his time to robotic learning from demonstrations with the Brain-Robotics team. He holds a Master's degree in Robotics from the GRASP Lab at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was advised by Prof. Daniel D. Lee. Lu's research interests span machine learning and robotics, with a particular focus on advancing learning techniques for safe, reliable, and generalizable intelligent agents capable of autonomous reasoning, planning, and decision-making in real-world scenarios. His professional experience includes internships at Google, Microsoft Research, and Morgan Stanley.

Sharon Di
Columbia University
Dr. Xuan (Sharon) Di is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at Columbia University in the City of New York, and co-chairs the Smart Cities Center in the Data Science Institute. Dr. Di directs the DitecT (Data and innovative technology-driven Transportation) Lab, focusing on transportation systems. Her overarching research mission is to empower mobility for all, emphasizing the use of technology for social good. She is currently focused on pioneering the development of digital twins for urban transportation management, leveraging cyber-physical systems technology. Within this framework, her research spans diverse areas, including autonomous vehicle control on shared roads with humans, multi-modal mobility optimization, and the intersection of transportation with health considerations. Claudia D'Ambrosio

Claudia D’Ambrosio is a research director at CNRS and adjunct professor at École Polytechnique, France. She has expertise in mathematical optimization, with a particular focus on exact and heuristic methods applied to different real-world problems related to energy efficiency and transportation. She has a strong interest on industrial applications in general, and collaborated with Uber, Réseau de Transport d’Électricité, Electricité de France, just to mention a few.
David Yao
Columbia University
David Yao is a Professor of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at Columbia University, holding the Piyasombatkul Family Chair. A member of the National Academy of Engineering, he is also an IEEE Fellow, an INFORMS Fellow, and a Guggenheim Fellow. Dr. Yao's research focuses on operations research, applied probability, and stochastic models, with applications in healthcare, communication networks, and supply chains. He has authored over 200 refereed publications and three books, and has served on editorial boards of several leading journals. Dr. Yao has received numerous awards, including the Franz Edelman Award from INFORMS and the SIAM Outstanding Paper Prize. He is a founding member of Columbia's Center for Applied Probability and a co-director of the Center for the Management of Systemic Risk. Dr. Yao has led various academic programs, including the M.S. in Financial Engineering, and holds eight U.S. patents in manufacturing operations and supply chain logistics.

Roy Rada

Roy Rada is a Clean Energy Manager at Con Edison. He has been working on innovative E-mobility projects since joining Con Edison in 2020. Examples of innovative projects Roy has worked on include the curbside charging demonstration project, school bus vehicle to grid project. Prior to joining Con Edison, Roy worked in Germany for major utility company E.ON SE leading international asset management projects. He also worked for six years at Cummins Inc as an R&D engineer developing diesel engines for a variety of customer applications including on-highway trucking, and stationary power generation. Roy has a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from University of Florida as well as a Master’s in Business Administration from INSEAD in France. Roy is passionate about sustainability and is proud to be a part of a team that shares this passion. Outside of work Roy enjoys traveling, playing rugby, reading, and videogames.

Lucia Game

Lucia Game is a senior specialist at Con Edison in the E-Mobility Demonstration Projects team. Her team works on the ideation, launch, and execution of innovative demonstration projects that aim to provide proof of concept for how emerging technologies can accelerate the electrification of transportation across Con Edison’s service territory. Prior to joining Con Edison, Lucia worked in both research and startup environments within transportation sustainability, focusing on electric vehicles and other emerging transportation technologies. She holds a Bachelor’s in Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master’s in Transportation Engineering from UC Berkeley, and is pursuing a part-time MBA at NYU Stern. She was the 2022 Lee Schipper Memorial Scholar, researching demand response technology adoption in Mexico City and is an active member of the Transportation Research Board Standing Committee on Transportation in Developing Countries.

Sho Ohata is an experienced utility professional who currently leads a team of data scientists tackling a variety of enterprise data and analytics use cases. Sho holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Rutgers University and a Master of Information in Data Science from The University of California Berkeley.
William Carry

Assistant Commissioner for Policy, NYC Department of Transportation. Will Carry is the Assistant Commissioner for Policy at the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT). At DOT he works on broad range of policy issues, including electric vehicle charging, micromobility, accessibility, automated vehicles, Vision Zero, and innovation. Will has over 18 years of public sector experience in transportation in the New York City metropolitan region. While at NYC DOT, he led the development of the agency’s bus rapid transit vision plan, strategic plan, and electric vehicle charging strategy. Will has held several roles within NYCDOT, as well as positions at the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and Long-Term Planning and New Jersey Transit. He holds an A.B. in Public Policy from Princeton University and a Master of City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Seth Contreras

Policy Advisor for Innovation, NYC Department of Transportation. Seth is currently the Policy Advisor for Innovation at the NYC DOT. He coordinates all research and development efforts across the agency that focuses on testing emerging technologies with the private sector that can help the City achieve its climate and road safety goals. He currently manages the city’s first ever outdoor e-bike charging pilot for food delivery workers. Seth has a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and has been working on sustainable mobility for the last 10 years in the private, public, and non-profit sectors.

Elioth Sanabria

Elioth Sanabria is the founder of Staffing Analytics, a company dedicated to create data-driven optimization solutions for the government and the private sector, focusing on transportation and logistics solutions among other resource allocation problems using AI and state-of-the-art algorithmic solutions. Elioth has served as Deputy Director of Operations Research for the Fire Department of New York City, and as Assistant Commissioner of Operations Research and Chief Efficiency Officer for the New York City Department of Correction. Focusing on a variety of problems, including optimal ambulance scheduling and positioning, as well as bus routing and scheduling optimization. Elioth is a graduate of Columbia University, where he earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Operations Research. Elioth has a strong passion for solving large scale problems that improve the quality of life of many people using his technical background.
Olivia L Moore

Olivia joined Columbia University in November 2022 as the Managing Director of the National Science Foundation's Engineering Research Center for Smart Streetscapes (www.cs3-erc.org). In this role, Olivia facilitates the work of the Center and fosters an environment of collaboration and excellence through partnerships with multiple academic institutions, industry members, government agencies, non-profit organizations, faculty, professional staff, graduate and undergraduate students, and educational outreach program participants. Before joining Columbia, Olivia worked in Washington, D.C., at the U.S. Department of Transportation and the American Planning Association. She holds a Master's of Community and Regional Planning and a Master's of Public Affairs from The University of Texas at Austin.
